Accutane Accutane (isotretinoin) is a drug that you may need to use to treat bad acne - severe nodular acne that can sometimes be impossible to get under control using antibiotics and other commonly recommended treatments. Stop taking Accutane if you think you may have become pregnant in spite of using the birth control forms recommended. Tell your health care provider about any medical conditions that may affect the success of your treatment. The following ones are important to mention: anorexia nervosa, history of suicide attempt, asthma, osteoporosis, heart or liver disease, high triglyceride levels, mental illness, diabetes, and depression. Any drugs you are taking that may interact with Accutane are also important to report, especially the following ones: prednisone, methylprednisolone, dexamethasone, doxycycline, demeclocycline, phenytoin, tetracycline, vitamin A supplements, minocycline, and medications for seizures. Accutane is usually well tolerated although a few mild side effects are still possible. The following ones can occur: drowsiness, nervousness, dizziness, changes in your fingernails, cracking or peeling skin, back pain, joint pain, and dryness of the lips, mouth, nose, or skin.
